Tabbed out below is the scale of G major played from the 6th string (E) starting at the 3rd fret.
The arrangement of notes in all major scales is exactly the same.
For example, G major contains the following notes:

G     A     B     C     D     E     F#     G

  Major Scales always have the following arrangement of notes:

tone     tone     semi-tone     tone     tone     tone     semi-tone

So,  
G   -   A  is a tone
 A   -   B   is a tone
B   -   C   is a semi-tone
C   -   D   is a tone
and so on...

Most important of all, play through the scale as tabbed below and listen carefully...!

Play slowly through the scale using downstrokes at first.
As your left hand fingering becomes more confident, start to use alternate strokes - downstroke / upstroke.
