The Bass Sessions will be for 4 string basses

So your Bass has 4 strings!
From the bottom as you look at the Bass the strings are numbered

1  2  3  4

and their note names are

 G  D  A  E


"G" is the string name of the bottom string - string 1
"D" is the string name of the next string up - string 2
"A" is the string name of the next string up - string 3
"E" is the string name of the top string - string 4
From the top as you look at the Bass you have:

 E[4]    A[3]    D[2]    G[1]
